A Day in the life...of a pilgrim

After a day of rest we got up, not too early, had breakfast and started out from Sarria. It was a cool morning with a dense fog/mist hanging over the town.

We headed up through the village and up and then down across this bridge

Then it was up...with lots more pilgrims on the trail...some pushing there way around, some not speaking the customary "buen camino", and all the while I was trying to remember the spirit of the camino...to be gracious, share, make others feel welcome, appreciate those who walk with you today... (Sigh) this was going to be difficult with so much pushing and shoving.

The steep climb seemed to go on and on. And that was my advantage. I climb a little better than most even on sore feet

And then I saw him again...the singing, "hallelujah" man!!

He showed up like an angel. He saw me and before I could greet him he said " "hallelujah mi hermana" "gracias! Buen camino!"

And it seemed the sun came out.

Actually we just had climbed above the fog but it felt like it.

And we walked on with birds singing, frogs croaking, and cows lowing...

The smells, sounds and sights were all around us

This sweet woman had a pail on her cane over her shoulder.

And then we made it to the 100 km marker.

Woohoo!!!
But there were still a few more miles to go for the day...and a few more things to see!

And supper!!

Tomorrow will be another day full of adventure!!

  2. Also, you climb well because of all the hours running and biking to prepare for the journey of a lifetime.

    BUENO CAMINO!!!

  3. I liked your comment about "Tomorrow will be another day of adventure" If we treat each day as an adventure it allows to open our minds to much more of our surroundings and take in more. What could be better. To some, things we call an adventure might seem mundane, but what we see and experience enriches us. Enough of my meandering, keep going and take in everything you experience.
